Filipinas Near Me

Moving from a big city to a small town is such a drastic change not just for me but for the entire family. I knew, that I would be deprived of the mall strolling and socialization with other Filipinas when we decided to move here in the country. It has been over 5 months since we moved and so far we are adjusting pretty good except for those times when we want to experience the city life chaos again (myself and my girls, at least). The nearest mall from us is 34 minutes. Yes, we are that far from the city that going to Lowes, hobby stores or simply going to go grocery shopping is an all-day thing now.

During our early months here in De Kalb, they had quite a few small town festivities here and each time I went out there, I was hoping to see someone with black hair. I had seen one, she was a Chinese but did not get to talk to her. They left as soon as we arrived in the venue in Fall.

Weeks turned into months, still nothing although I have seen 2 Filipinas working at Walmart, I have not totally hung out with them since they are busy working. Gladly though, my husband went to a water station one time and there he met a man with a Filipina wife with him. They live in De Kalb as well, get in touch on Facebook and went out to the mall once.

Then all of the sudden one day, 1,2,3-4 ladies started adding me on Facebook telling me they also live nearby. How awesome is that? In fact, there’s one just 8 minutes away from me and she speaks the same language as I do. I really believe I was the only one in this lonely little town but then here they are, there is a number of Filipinas around me! That give me a sigh of relief knowing that I am not alone in this place.

Here are a few pictures of us at a birthday party just last weekend.

A pose with Eleonor who happens to live next town, just 8 minutes away.
