Simple Family Valentine’s Day Dinner at Home

My husband is far from being perfect, he has flaws because he is human. He is a man of few words. He is also sweet, does not sugar-coat his words. Instead, show his love through his actions.

Rest assured, family comes first to him. He cares and devotes his life so much for his family and he does half of the responsibility like every parent should. When there’s an occasion, he will do something to remind us that each occasion is worth celebrating.

Like today, it’s Valentine’s Day. It is the first VD we did not go out, what he did is he take an effort to make our dinner. A whooping 3-pound steak baked in the oven, baked fries and steamed broccoli all prepared by him for this occasion. He did not buy chocolates, card or flowers but his action speaks louder than words and I am grateful. I made sure I appreciated him for what he did, it was an awesome and tasty dinner shared tonight. The children loved what was on the table.

I sure am one lucky wife for finding a man like my husband. I love my husband, I love my kids. I love my family. In every occasion, they are there celebrating with me! They are my precious treasure and a dream come true. They are my family I call my own.

Small New Year Feast and 12 Round Fruits

If you have been following this blog, you would know that it is our tradition to put 12 different kind of round fruits on the table every New Year. Round fruits to represent prosperity and abundance and to also hoping for more $ this year.

This is what I prepared for my family last night, just cooked rice noodles soup with chicken and baked chicken breasts and drumsticks for dinner, some round chocolates and a round oreo cake that my girls love. A small feast is enough for the four of us, nothing fancy… just small and simple and that’s it.

What I am praying and wishing for this year is for us to be always healthy, strong, intact/being together, always safe wherever we may go and most of all, worry-free for the rest of the year!

2016 has been so great for us, I would say!

Officially 33

Another year is added to my existence here on earth. I am beyond blessed to be living and reach this age because there are a few of my batch mates in school who unfortunately did not make it to my age.

As usual, we celebrated our birthday by dining out at Red Lobster exclusively with family. Nothing fancy, nothing special except that I feel special because my husband took a day off today. He gave me flowers and a balloon yesterday. That alone make me feel pretty, haha.

I am thankful to the Lord above for giving me this opportunity to celebrate my 33rd birthday with people I love the most. I am healthy at this age and most of all, I have peace of mind. That’s a gift because not everyone in this world have that and having peace of mind is something that cannot be bought.

Anyway, I ordered the biggest plate of Red Lobsters’ “Lobster and Shrimp Summer Fest” menu. It’s my birthday so it’s a treat and I believe, I deserve it. Who does not? The food is scrumptious and yes, it’s huge that I couldn’t eat it all. Bringing home the leftover just give me another meal to enjoy my birthday food.

I saw the summer fest advertised on Facebook last night and I knew right then what I am gonna order today, so I did. We had some appetizer, main dish and a dessert which is a strawberry cheesecake. We all enjoyed the dinner and I feel blessed.

…. a reminder how I look at 33

… a treat for myself on my birthday. I love everything that’s in the plate. My kind of food to be exact.

Late Upload Mother’s Day Celebration

When there is an occasion, we try to celebrate it simply and exclusively for our family. On Mother’s Day, as a tradition in our household, my husband took us out to a 45-minute drive away from home for dinner and for the children to enjoy bungee jump at the mall.

Rain Forest Cafe in Grapevine Mills Mall was the destination where I had my seafood combo, salmon and rice for the husband and chicken/shrimp nuggets for the girls. We do not require grand celebration in our household as long as the husband remembers me on days that pertain to appreciating the hard work I do for our family, that’s what matters to me. And I am happy with it.

What’s important is, we got to go out, everybody had fun and we bonded together as a whole family.

Post Valentine Dinner

This post is long overdue, lol! We are a family of simplicity and easy to please. We don’t need much to be happy. A simple occasional dinner outside is enough to remember that it’s a special day and need to be celebrated with the family.

Here’s my most favorite people in the world after having a Valentine’s dinner at Red Lobster in Burleson. Everybody is smiling in this picture because they are full and the weather was very beautiful.

In every occasion, there’s just us who would gladly go together and have fun even just for a moment. There should be no one left behind for we are a family.

How about you guys, how did you celebrate your Valentine’s Day?

Round Fruits and Polka Dots Before 2015 Ends

Before this year ends, I would like to post my last entry for the year 2015 and I end it with my 13 kinds of round fruits and myself wearing polka dots all over. One of  traditional Filipino beliefs, we collect 13 kinds of round fruits is for the next year to have abundant food on the table and polka dots clothing for money to come in. I know it is a total crap but I grew up believing it, there’ll be no harm done by doing them so I am doing what I am accustomed to do even here int he United States, I am bringing with me the Filipino myth and belief.

I have done this since I first arrived here in the US and there is no stopping each year, I think.

A short recap of how year 2015 has been for us. Well, I should say that is way better than the previous 4 years for we are completely out of debt. Thank God for that! The long hurdle and burden of the lawsuit we faced for 4 years is over six months ago. Although we did not get all the money we want but we got some. The stress and frustrations it had caused us were overwhelming so now we are glad we put that behind us.

Everybody in our family is healthy throughout the year, nothing shocking had happened, we bought our new ride and most of all, WE GOT PEACE OF MIND we so yearn to achieve. I could not ask for more, truly. We have no debts to pay, we are all healthy, good marriage, good kids, nice and dependable husband. I am pretty BLESSED!

I guess this would be all for this year. Until I can write again next year!

My First Red Pajama Party

Of my over 9 years here in America, it was my first time to have attended a Pajama Party 3 days ago. Most parties I’ve been to were the typical parties wherein people get to dressed up in casual attire and everybody trying to look good.

The Red Pajama Party was held at a Spa retreat on Bryant Irvin road by a Filipina. It was the most interesting party I have ever attended and the best for me! Aside from a lot of foods, they actually have something interesting/educational kids craft and game activities for our little ones.

The highlight of the night was a Santa’s visit who appeared suddenly at the front door that made everybody excited and happy especially the kids. Of course, sitting on Santa’s lap and picture taking were not missed.

I love that there are party invitations closer to our home most of which are Filipino-American gatherings. It somehow eases my homesickness and the yearning to be with my family in the Philippines because these parties are attended by my friends or some people I know.

December and the entire summer are my worst months for homesickness but three upcoming parties to look forward to, that diverted my emotions to at least not feeling homesick! Thanks to those Filipinas for inviting me!

Things I am Thankful For Everyday not Just on Thanksgiving Day

Quite a number of shoutouts on Facebook greeting everybody a Happy Thanksgiving Day! Well, while that sound amazing and caring, they thank as if they don’t have to be thankful for everyday.

I am thankful everyday silently and say it directly to my Lord! I am not so vocal with it. Today, let me write down the things I am blessed with and it is just right to be thankful for all these not just today but everyday as long as I am alive.

1. Healthy Marriage. For over a decade I am married to my husband, that’s a long time for me and that’s one of the greatest blessing I have.

2. Healthy Family. My children and my husband are my world, big bonus they are healthy and well everyday. Children are happy and have joyous hearts. As a mother, that make me content seeing them giggling, laughing and playing.

3. Safety. We’ll never know when’s our last time here on Earth especially the kind of job my husband has. So seeing him coming home every afternoon safe and sound is something I pray for every night and God keep him safe. I am very thankful for that you know.

4. Financially Well. While we don’t have the latest gadgets or late model cars, we are financially well compare to most American families. We don’t have a debt nor car and mortgage payments every month. Thank God to that!

5. Stable Job. I am thankful for my husband’s stable job with great benefits. We are a one-income family yet we are able to live a comfortable life because of him. He works hard and bring in enough money to support our needs. We also live within our means and don’t buy things we cannot afford.

6. Shelter and Food. Are the very basics of life. We are warm in winter and cool in summer in our house. And we never ran out of food! Such a big blessings to us. My girls not experiencing hunger in our home.

7. Life. I am thankful  to God for giving us a “new life” everyday. As we wake up in the morning, I remember I am alive and well and able to live another day in order to experience great things life has to offer.

How about you? What are the things you are thankful for not just on Thanksgiving but everyday?

Celebrated Our 11th Wedding Anniversary

Cheers to us for we have just celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary 4 days ago. The special day fell on Friday and my husband had to go to work so we waited the following day before we could go out for dinner. It was so simple, just a dinner yet to me it means a lot. Eleven years is quite a long time already and yes, we have had long cold treatments, less fights and more happiness and peace within our marriage.

Ours is not perfect. There is no way it can be perfect as there is no such thing as “perfect marriage”. What matters is that we picked up from where we left off and how we bounce back after the cold treatments I did to my husband when I’m upset with him.

I treasure our marriage and our family. It is the only thing I can brag to the world, and yes, I am blessed not with material things but with love, healthy marriage and family. Having these three great people in my life is enough for me to be fulfilled and content everyday. As long as we’re together, healthy and happy.

Mother’s Day Bouquet of Flowers

Over ten years of our marriage, my husband still gives me flowers occasionally which I appreciate so much. It’s nice to know that he hasn’t forgotten me despite of his busy schedules at work combined with chores around the house every weekend. Our marriage is not perfect, there were times when I tend to feel that I am of no value to him but most number my days being married to him are being happy, content, fulfilled and loved.

He knows I love flowers, I have two big flower beds in our front yard yet he bought me assorted flowers last Friday as an advanced present for last Sunday’s occasion. Not only I received flowers from my husband, my firstborn also made me a big Mother’s Day card in school and a few handmade ones she made at home expressing her love for mommy and that she is appreciative of the things I do for her and her sister.

Ah truly I feel blessed because of the only treasure I have in this world, my family!
